AVPreserve Senior Consultant Kara Van Malssen has been invited to give a plenary talk as part of the National Audiovisual Institute (NInA) of Poland’s seminar Take control of your records! to take place April 10th in Warsaw, Poland. NInA is a regional “competence center” founded in 2005 to support the promotion, digitization, and preservation of the Polish audiovisual heritage. As part of their charge, NInA offers regular seminars and workshops to educate and promote best practices for collection care.
The focus of Take control of your records! will be the development of systems used to manage audiovisual assets and metadata. Kara’s talk, “The process of implementation of information systems for Media / Digital Asset Management”, will address the implementation of MAM systems, especially as supportive of both archival and production/distribution environments. Asset management at these two levels have several differences in use cases for access, but there is a significant amount of crossover or policies that can be of mutual benefit. In many of our projects with broadcasters or video production units we work to support such preservation minded production practices or collection management that supports continued use of assets. The implementation of asset management systems, metadata schemas, and file management policies are an important part of that merging of preservation and access in that way.
Poland is well known for its rich film and audiovisual heritage, and it is a great honor to be invited to speak to and meet the people who taking care of it for future generations to enjoy.
