The AVPreserve team will be busy next week at bi-coastal digital preservation events. Consultant Rebecca Chandler is an invited speaker at the Northeast Document Conservation Center’s Digital Directions conference in Portland, Oregon. Digital Directions: Fundamentals of Creating and Managing Digital Collections is an annual training conference that presents 2 ½ days of instruction on basics and best practices for creating good digital objects, collections, and initiatives. Rebecca will be instructing attendees in two workshops — Digitizing Audio and Digitizing Video, which will provide a basic overview of identification, selection, and statement of work development when working with a digitization vendor.

Consultants Kara Van Malssen, Seth Anderson, and Bertram Lyons and President Chris Lacinak will be attending and speaking at Digital Preservation 2014, the annual meeting of the National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program that supports shared expertise in digital stewardship through a program that features thought leaders, hands-on workshops, small discussion groups, and expert panels. Seth and Bert will be speaking on the panel “Digital Preservation Audit and Planning with ISO 16363 and NDSA Levels of Preservation” discussing recent projects and research at AVPreserve in assessing clients’ suitability to act as a Trusted Digital Repository (TDR). Kara will be on the panel “Next Generation: The First Digital Repository for Museum Collections” with Ben Fino-Radin of MoMA and Dan Gillean of Artefactual Systems discussing the development of MoMA’s Digital Repository for Museum Collections (DRMC) which is being implemented to storage and manage their file-based art collection. AVPreserve just recently completed a TDR assessment for MoMA and Kara will share some interesting conclusions from the process. Finally, Chris will be a part of the “Tools Showcase and Demo Session” sharing the many digital preservation tools we have developed over the past year, including MDQC, Fixity, and the Cost of Inaction Calculator. Look up our crew and chat if you’re going to be at either of these great events.
