This is the recording of the first session of our free webinar series in Spanish focused on digital preservation. The series presents some of our free tools in addition to conversations with experts in Ibero-america on subjects such as digitization, digital preservation systems and tools, digital preservation fundamentals, case studies, and more!  Our series started with an introduction to FIXITY, one of our free applications designed to monitor file integrity.

Title: FIXITY

Date: April 17th, 2018

Instructor: Pamela Vizner (AVP)

Description: Keeping digital data integrity is one of the rules of thumb for digital preservation. However, how do you know if your digital files are corrupt, missing, moved or renamed? We invite you to join us to learn how FIXITY will allow you to monitor and report on file integrity and attendance. How does it work? FIXITY – available for both Windows and Mac – scans a folder or directory, creating a manifest of the files including their file paths and their checksums, against which regular comparative analyses are performed. FIXITY then emails a report to the user documenting flagged items along with the reason for a flag, such as that a file has been moved to a new location in the directory, has been edited, or has failed a checksum comparison for other reasons. When run regularly, FIXITY becomes a powerful tool for monitoring digital files in in almost any storage location. Download and find out more about Fixity at https://www.weareavp.com/products/fixity

This is the recording of the second session of our free webinar series in Spanish focused on digital preservation. The series presents some of our free tools in addition to conversations with experts in Ibero-america on subjects such as digitization, digital preservation systems and tools, digital preservation fundamentals, case studies, and more! In this opportunity, Perla Olivia Rodríguez Reséndiz, researcher from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) joined our conversation presenting on the OAIS (Open Archival Information System) model and its application to sound archives.

Títle: The OAIS model (Open Archival Information System) in the design of digital sound archives

Date: May 22nd, 2018

Instructor: Perla Olivia Rodríguez Reséndiz

Moderator: Pamela Vizner (AVP)

Description: The documenting processes used in analog archives have fallen in disuse. For this reason, management, conservation and access to digital assets obtained as a result of digitization or born-digital, represent areas of interest for sound archives managers, information science professionals, documentalists, professors and researchers who are looking for alternatives to guarantee a sustainable digital preservation for their collections. Given that a model of a digital archive for sustainable digital preservation of assets does not yet exist, it is important to know the OAIS model (Open Archival Information System) as a reference framework to conceive, develop and manage a trusted and sustainable digital sound archive in the long term. Goals: Present and analyze the components and features of OAIS as a reference framework for the design of digital sound archives.

This is the recording of the third session of our free webinar series in Spanish focused on digital preservation. The series presents some of our free tools in addition to conversations with experts in Ibero-america on subjects such as digitization, digital preservation systems and tools, digital preservation fundamentals, case studies, and more! In this opportunity, our consultant Pamela Vízner presented the functionalities of our app AVCC, a specialized software for collaborative cataloging of audiovisual collections.

Títle: AVCC: collective cataloging of audiovisual collections

Date: August 16th, 2018

Instructor: Pamela Vízner (AVP)

Moderator: Jeannette Garcés (National Library of Chile)

Description: For organizations planning preservation work with their audiovisual materials but are confronted with little or no quantitative data about their collection, we invite you to join us for a look to the inventory tool, AVCC. An open source web application and guideline, AVCC was developed to enable collaborative, efficient item-level cataloging of audiovisual collections. The application incorporates built-in reporting on collection statistics, digital storage calculations, shipping manifests, and other data critical to prioritizing and planning preservation work with audiovisual materials. AVCC establishes a minimal set of required and recommended fields that provide basic intellectual control and enables collection holders to quantify and plan a reformatting project. How can we determine if a system is appropriate? Which roles must exists or adapt? Miquel Térmens will tell us about his experience with the implementation of the digital preservation system at Universidad de Barcelona and Pamela Vízner will share AVP’s approach to technology selection.
