Facing History and Ourselves is a nonprofit international educational and professional development organization with a mission to engage students of diverse backgrounds in an examination of racism, prejudice, and antisemitism in order to promote the development of a more humane and informed citizenry.

AVP was engaged by Facing History as part of an initiative to transform the operations and outreach capabilities of the organization. AVP supported the selection of an enterprise wide DAMS to enable preservation, collection management, publishing and access. As part of this work AVP documented requirements and use cases for the new system, and helped develop a metadata model to better describe Facing History’s digital collections. AVP also prepared an RFP, oversaw vendor vetting and selection, facilitated a taxonomy development project, and helped guide the implementation and roll out of the new DAMS across the organization.

Simultaneously AVP supported Facing History in the inventorying and selection of 2000+ analog and digital videotapes, developing a statement of work for digitization services, selecting a vendor, managing the digitization project, performing quality control, and ingesting files and metadata.

Subscribers to the Journal of Digital Media Management can read about Facing History’s successful digital transformation in Volume 5, Number 4 (Summer 2017).
