Little known fact about me: I have visited Ghana 9 times in the past 11 years. It has actually been one of the greatest privileges of my career thus far to work with NYU professor Mona Jimenez and several other collaborators helping build capacity for audiovisual archiving with the archives, broadcasters, libraries, and museums in Ghana. So I was excited and honored when the board of the International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives (IASA) invited me to present the closing keynote at their 49th annual conference, which was held in Accra, Ghana, October 1-4, 2018. It was an incredible event, and I am eternally grateful to the IASA board for letting me share this story.

MDQC 0.4: What’s New? How-to #3: Quick Guide to Exporting MediaInfo Files via GUI & CLI

This month, we released the newest version of our free tool MDQC, which allows users to easily perform metadata quality control. Using ExifTool and MediaInfo, MDQC compares embedded metadata of batches of media files to the metadata found in a reference file defined by the user. The creation of a series of rules allows a user to specify which fields they wish to QC and which files in a given folder the application should scan. MDQC is available for both Mac and Windows users.

This month we released a new version of our free tool MDQC with extended features. In this version —  0.4 — we have incorporated additional functionalities that allow the user to further refine filtering in order to provide more control over the scanning process. We have created a series of posts to provide examples and point to useful tools that can complement these new features. In this post, we will review how to refine the scanning process using specific filtering methods, integrating old functionalities and the new feature Base Filename Import.
